The Adirondack Kids®
School Visits

School Visits

For more than 20 years we, (the VanRipers), have enjoyed the privilege of presenting at schools, libraries, conferences, and on radio and television with our message: The 3 R’s: Reading, (w)Riting & Relationships. Thousands of students, including many reluctant readers, have been encouraged to remain engaged with reading and been challenged to try their own hand at writing.

During a typical presentation, students are exposed to the fundamentals of the craft as the mystique of the publishing process is removed. With the advent of new technologies, we have been able to expand the number of ways we can now interact with schools as outlined below.

We look forward to the opportunity to come alongside and help inspire those under your daily care to become more passionate and effective readers and writers inside and outside the classroom.

Exclusive – Your-School-Only – Virtual Visits

Program Content is the same as our traditional school visits when we are able to present in person.

Students are exposed to the fundamentals of writing with a special emphasis on the importance of reading.

The fact that Justin began writing with me (his dad) when he was entering 3rd grade helps remove much of the mystique of the process, so children are set free to imagine themselves able to engage in the craft immediately.

The author(s), Gary & Justin VanRiper, will talk about the ‘tools of the trade’ used in the 20 books they have written including why reading is essential, where story ideas can be found, creating characters, outlining a story, ‘live’ research, editing, proofing and practicing stick-to-itiveness! We always leave time at the end for questions.

Program Title is The 3 R’s: Reading (w)Riting & Relationships

Grade Levels are K-6. We tailor the program to be age appropriate

Program Length is typically 50 minutes which includes the Q & A period.

Virtual Program Fee is $250 per presentation.

“The students and faculty at Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary School participated in a ‘one book, one school” program for the first time this spring. The book was Adirondack Kids by Justin and Gary VanRiper. Although there was some hesitation at first about all the children from kindergarten to grade five reading the same book, that quickly changed! Once the children started reading the book with their families and teachers, everyone became highly enthusiastic… Once children completed the book, I was amazed at the comments so many of them made. One little girl told me how sad she was that the book was finished and the program would be over. Several asked if we could select another one of your books to start next week. As a reading teacher and working on numerous programs throughout the years, I have never seen the students as excited as they were with this!
Thank you VanRipers for visiting our school and making reading fun for the students at Frankfort—Schuyler School!”— Linda U, Remedial Reading Teacher, Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary School
