Free Activities & Presentations for the whole Family!
Inlet is our Adirondack home away from home. And in 2001 it was the family camp there on Fourth Lake which also became the home for the main character, Justin Robert, in The Adirondack Kids® book series.
We never dreamed at that time the first book would be so well received, much less become a series, and in the years that followed sell more than 150,000 copies and counting.
With God and family always our first priorities in everything we do, including writing wholesome adventure stories for children and their families to enjoy, the idea was hatched for a FREE family event to be held in our Adirondack community of Inlet, New York.
The result?
Adirondack Kids Day™ with activities inspiring further exploration and enjoyment of the Adirondacks great outdoors. And in keeping with our mission of encouraging young people to read, an Authors Fair at the Adirondack Reader bookstore featuring children’s books which are set in the Adirondacks.
The KIWANIS CLUB of the Central Adirondacks immediately became the event’s main sponsor and due to their generosity Adirondack Kids Day™ held on the first Saturday of every October became a reality.
Now in its 7th year, even many of the participating authors and illustrators attend with their family members to enjoy the many free activities and presentations and opportunities for an autumn hike along nearby trails.
One of our most popular guests is Mark Manske of Adirondack Raptors. His knowledge of birds of prey is unparalleled and his presentation is as entertaining as it is informative.
The wildly popular French Louie Fishing Derby is supervised by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC). Young anglers are outfitted with what they need to fish and throughout the day are transported by party boat to the middle of the Fulton Chain’s Fifth Lake to compete for prizes awarded at the close of the event. French Louie ADK Sports and the Inlet Business Association join Kiwanis in sponsoring this event.
Features are subject to change, but traditionally include demonstrations by experts in hiking and paddling. There are also horseback rides, face painting, and for children with a flair for art, there is a workshop with published illustrators. The committee will be working on new features as well – we are really hoping to have an expert with us on scuba diving!
The first 200 children accompanied by an adult also receive a free goody bag which always contains a free book from The Adirondack Kids® series.
We really hope you and your family will be able to join us this October 6.
We’ll be releasing the full schedule sometime this summer, so be watching for it!
Please help us spread the word!

BEHIND-THE-SCENES
A bit of movie magic. We had a great visit at Indian River Intermediate School in Philadelphia, NY, this week. The school used The Adirondack Kids® #1 in our series of books for its 1-School – 1 Book program, ordering 700 copies – one for each student.
We were able to film scenes from the presentations we did that day, but close-ups were hard to capture – so we reenacted a few of those moments. Sometime in the near future we hope to produce a short video from our footage for the School Visit page on our website.
