“So, You Want to Write a Book for Children?”

One of the questions we are asked most often when doing presentations among adults is how to get a book published. That is a great question and with the stigma  that for years was attached to self-publishing all but disappeared, the answer is not at all as clear as it once was.

Last week we listed a number of events and programs we plan to engaged in throughout 2019. Because we are so often asked about publishing, here is one more event we saved to share by itself.

The Annual Spring Conference of the Society of Children’s Book Writers (SCBWI) West-Central, NY Chapter Upstate is set for Saturday and Sunday, March 23 & 24  at Embassy Suites - Destiny USA in Syracuse New York.

There are a host of national and regional writers and illustrators who will be presenting throughout the weekend, and I (Gary) will be participating on a panel Sunday afternoon during a session entitled: To Self-Publish or Not to Self-Publish.

I will be joining writer Cynthia Cotten and illustrator Erin Nowak on the panel.

We have self-published all 18 of our current titles and sold more than 155,000 print books in The Adirondack Kids® series so far.

Perhaps you are at the idea stage with a story or may even have a manuscript for a picture book or MG or YA novel you feel is complete and ready for the next step.

With NY Times bestselling author and Newbery Honor Winner, Grace Lin, as the keynote speaker and other writers, illustrators and industry leaders sharing their expertise, this is an event any aspiring author or illustrator could greatly benefit from. We are currently working on our 19th book, and I, too, am looking forward to being inspired and learning more from these seasoned professionals!

What follows is the official link to this SCBWI event where you will find a comprehensive schedule, presenter’s biographies and registration information:

Perhaps I’ll see you there!
